Verified interview challenge

Prioritise three customers with one engineer

Choose where a single engineer's week should go when a production incident, a renewal and a strategic pilot compete for it.

The challenge

You are the product manager for an enterprise support-agent platform. Three customers need engineering work, but their urgency, commercial stakes and delivery effort differ. Write a recommendation your manager can use to allocate the week and align what Sales, Customer Success and Engineering tell each customer.

The capacity is fixed
The decision needs to fit one engineer's available week. Other teams can help, but their involvement does not create additional engineering capacity.

What you'll practise

  • Comparing customer needs

Weigh an operational incident, renewal risk and prospective revenue against delivery effort.

  • Allocating scarce capacity

Make a feasible commitment and explain the consequences for work that waits.

  • Managing expectations

Give each customer a clear message while handling executive pressure internally.
