The challenge

The platform supports fine-tuning on an older model, while competitors already offer it on their flagship models. Customers are considering a move. Full fine-tuning on the new model is an expensive, lengthy build, and a cheaper adapter-based option would reach them sooner. Recommend a direction for the CEO using the customer, engineering and financial evidence in the brief.

Some existing customers need a long revalidation period before changing models. A decision about the next product therefore also commits the team to supporting the old one. Your memo must connect that migration burden to the investment and pricing you propose.

What you'll practise

  • Investment choices

Compare the cost and timing of the available paths against the customers each would serve.

  • Customer migration

Account for developers who want the new model and those who cannot move quickly.

  • Pricing and commitments

Explain how the product can be sold and supported without promising a transition the team cannot deliver.
