Verified interview challenge
Design GitHub Actions
Design a CI/CD platform that turns code pushes into reliable, isolated workflow runs.
Unlock with Full AccessThe challenge
A code push selects a workflow definition from a particular commit and starts jobs that may run for hours. Some jobs depend on others, and several customers share the runners. Design how the platform schedules that work while isolating source code and secrets and keeping developers informed through live status and logs.
The first release covers push-triggered Linux jobs. Within that boundary, follow a workflow through cancellation, retries and runner failure. A useful design needs to explain what a returning developer sees as well as what the scheduler believes is running.
What you'll practise
Workflow execution
Handle dependencies and failures across jobs that may run for hours.
Shared infrastructure
Schedule workloads fairly while isolating untrusted code.
Operational visibility
Keep live status and logs useful during interruptions and recovery.
