What to expect at OpenAI

OpenAI's PM cases can ask you to turn an unfamiliar capability into a useful product or make a launch decision under difficult cost constraints. You may need to choose a customer, describe the experience, define success and defend the commercial trade-offs. Later discussions can probe how you work with engineering, research and sales.

ChatGPT, fine-tuning, staff and principal PM routes differ. Confirm the product area, whether cases are live or prepared, and what you are expected to deliver.

Answering an execution question

Keep product framing brief when the question asks how to measure success. Explain the value the product should deliver, a signal of progress and a guardrail against a misleading improvement. Be prepared to defend why the measure connects to customer value.

Clarify the release assumptions before choosing a rollout. When the interviewer requires immediate broad access, explain how you would launch and manage risks within that constraint. Do not assume you can substitute a staged release.
